Marriage License for Wisconsin

General Information:

Residents of Wisconsin must apply in the county in which
either party is a resident.

They may be married in any county in the state. Wisconsin residents getting married in another state must apply in that state.

One of the applicants must have resided in the county for at least

30 days to be considered a resident of that county.

Out-of-state residents desiring to be married in Wisconsin may

apply for a license in any county, but then must be married
within that county.

Persons over 30 years of age are not required to present

a birth certificate.

Arrangements for the ceremony must be made prior to applying

for a license.

Both parties must be present to sign the marriage application

and license.

You must know your social security number. 


There is a $55 fee for the license.

Applications must be made at least six days before the wedding.
The license is then good for 30 days from the issuance date.

Requirements:

Documentary proof of birth date and residence:
    Driver's License or I.D. card AND certified birth certificate
    if under 30 years of age.
    (If under 30 years of age, certificate must have a raised seal or  

     written certifications. Hospital records do not qualify.)

If either party has been divorced, a copy of the judgement must be presented and divorce must be final at least six months.

If widow or widower, death certificate must be shown.

Blood tests are no longer required in the State of Wisconsin.

Waiting Period:

A five day waiting period is required after making application
before the license may be issued. The day of the application
does not count in the waiting period. The five day wait may be
waived for a fee of $10.

Persons Who May Not Marry:

Males and females under 16 years of age.

Blood relatives nearer of kin than second cousins except when the female is 55 years of age or older or one of the couple is sterilized.

Both males and females 16 to 18 years of age must have parental consent to marry or legal guardian's consent. Forms are available in the Clerk's office.

Apply for marriage license at County Clerk's Office,
Government Center, 1101 Carmichael Road, Hudson, WI 54016
Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applications are processed until 4:00 p.m.
